It Started With an NFC Sticker

One afternoon my brother-in-law tapped his phone against a small sticker mounted near his TV. Instantly, his entire house came alive. The lights flashed, a smoke machine filled the room, and the Philadelphia Eagles fight song blasted through every speaker in the house to celebrate a touchdown. Everything was triggered by a tiny NFC sticker.

I wasn't impressed by the Eagles (Go Bills!), but I was fascinated by the technology. It made me wonder...

The First Idea

Like many people who enjoy building things, I started experimenting. My first project was an interactive tabletop adventure game that used NFC-enabled character coins and cards. Players could physically interact with the game by tapping NFC pieces to make decisions.

It was a fun project and taught me a tremendous amount about NFC technology. Eventually, though, real life caught up with me. Work became busy, priorities changed, and the project found its way onto the shelf.

The Lightbulb Moment

About a year later, I started a new job where I met new people every day. I quickly realized I didn't have business cards. Instead of ordering traditional paper cards, I built myself an NFC contact card.

It wasn't anything special— just a plain white plastic card with a tiny NFC chip inside, but every time I handed it to someone, I got the exact same reaction.

No paper. No typing. No app to install. Just a tap, and my contact information instantly appeared on their phone.

ConTap Was Born

That's when it clicked. If a simple homemade card could consistently surprise people while making networking easier, there had to be a better way to bring the experience to everyone.

So I built ConTap.
